Writing

What do you do with your heroine
Before she's on the page?
Is it you or she who must decide
How she looks and what's her age?

You sit down with your writing book
And jot down many things
Then change them time and time again
Until exhaustion brings

An end to all the tampering
And you're much too tired to read.
Tomorrow will be soon enough
To see what thoughts you've freed.
