Friends

A flippant joke, an arcane phrase,
Keep echoing through memory.
An elephant does not forget
Yet I won't choose to let words be

The last remembrance of those years
When sunsets caused the soul to ache,
When you and I imagined life
A grand driveway, without a break.

Let’s take the time to think of when
We’d stand together through the days
When trouble seemed to rule the hour.
Let’s not forget in anger’s haze

That you and I have always been
The staunchest friends, through thick and thin.
Let’s both take comfort knowing we
Both hold each heartbeat deep within.
